This project aims to connect and integrate a new gymnasium with an existing sports park across the road physically and visually. In order to enhance the dynamic relationship between the two sites, programs are spread throughout the site rather than build up a solid mass. A continuous loop connects the spread programs following the site boundary and tying the programs and landscape together as one movement. While functioning as promenade or running track, it creates internal active and fluid movement, also influx from the park and downtown in the South.
The linear movement starts from the sports park and across over the road and embraces the site. It continues to the roof of gymnasium and merges into a running track around the sky light, so the roof area also can be used actively as a part of public sports area. And it slopes down toward ground level and transformed into a large corridor functioning as an intermediate space between two entrances at a different level and exterior and interior spaces. The large entrance corridor divides the building into two programs functionally- multipurpose gym and operational support and community facility which has sunken garden and cafeteria. So each part of the building can be used independently as a sports facility as well as a gathering space for the local community.
