PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project starts with defining the relationship between new library, community and existing park, and making connections between them. Located beside main road and linear urban park, the proposed building is expected to serve as gateway to residential area from the linear park and gathering space for the local community. From the main road and park, the building is conceived as a floating box. The huge sculptural mass floating in the air functions as horizontal frame that defines the boundary of the building and its neighbor. At the same time, it blurs boundaries by creating continuous flow of the urban park and naturally absorbing the movement of people. Moreover, translucent polycarbonate facade enables visitor to experience dynamic visual connection from outside to inside building and from inside to sloped inner courtyard, and glows at night, which features the unique floating mass. The project has three stories structured above the ground and one basement floor below. Trussed large main structure cantilevered steel shell is anchored on the south floats where multipurpose hall and classrooms are located.
